Toolkit: California Climate Superfund Call-In ☎️

When you call your representatives, you don’t need to be an expert — just speak from the heart. Here are a few simple points you can use to explain why you support the Polluters Pay Climate Superfund Act (SB 684/AB 1243) and why Senators should vote yes in committees and on the floor.

Every time there’s a fire or flood, regular people end up footing the bill.
It’s not right that California taxpayers are stuck paying to clean up climate disasters while oil companies keep making record profits.  This bill would finally make the companies that caused the climate crisis help pay to fix it.

Big Oil knew what they were doing and kept profiting while our communities paid the price.
They’ve made huge profits while people have lost homes, jobs, and even their lives to wildfires, heatwaves, and floods. Their products helped cause this and it’s only fair they help clean up the mess.

Our state budget is stretched thin, and the costs of climate disasters are only going up.
Cities and counties can’t keep covering these massive expenses on their own. This bill would bring in real funding for disaster relief, health care, and rebuilding — without putting the burden back on everyday Californians.

This bill would bring real money back into our communities to fix what’s broken.
It would help repair damaged roads and bridges, strengthen schools and hospitals, and support the firefighters and first responders risking their lives to keep us safe during climate disasters.

California has a chance to lead the way and show that polluters should be held accountable.
Other states like New York and Vermont have already passed similar laws. California is supposed to be a leader. It’s our turn to stand up to Big Oil and make sure they take responsibility for the harm they’ve caused.
